Boil the water and the sugar for about 2-3 minutes (until the sugar is dissolved).
Let the syrup cool briefly and add the basil. Set aside to steep and cool.
Wash the strawberries (removing and discarding the caps) and then cut them into quarters.
Cut away the orange peel from the oranges, and then cut the oranges into sections.
Put the strawberries and orange pieces (and orange juice) in a bowl. Toss.
Pour the syrup over the fruit.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
