Kalonji Chana Dal recipe

Ingredients

  • Chana dal 500g (soaked for 7 to 8 hours and then boiled in water till tender, but should not lose its shape)
  • Tomatoes 3 large (sliced)
  • Onions 2 medium (finely sliced)
  • Salt 1 tsp (heaped)
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp (heaped)
  • Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • Black pepper corn 8
  • Cloves 8
  • Cinnamon stick 1
  • Black-caraway 2 tsp (kalonji)
  • Cumin seeds 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  • Bullet green chili 3 (sliced)
  • Ginger & garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • Mint leaves 15
  • Coriander leaves handful
  • Oil 3/4 cup

Cooking Instructions

Heat oil add cinnamon stick, cloves, black pepper corn, cumin seeds, kalonji, onions, ginger & garlic paste and fry till golden, on high flame.

Then add tomatoes, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, water 1/3 cup and cook on high flame till the oil comes on the surface.

Now add the boiled dal, water 1 & 1/2 cups mix and cover, simmer on low flame till the oil comes on the surface.

Add mint, green chilli, garam masala powder, coriander leaves, mix well.

Serve hot with roti.
